1177BCE
In his book 1177BC Eric H Cline described how and when civilization collapsed around the Mediterranean Sea. This collapse marks the end of the Bronze Age and the end of the Mycenean culture and many other cultures surrounding the Mediterranean Sea.

It was the start of the Greek Dark Ages that lasted for four centuries, untill about 800BCE, when new cultures arised. One of them, from the westcoast of Asia Minor, now-a-days Turkey, where Odysseus wend and Homer came from, trade routes were opened to the cities west of the Black Sea.

Pottery from Asia Minor is found in abundance in Varna Bulgaria. This town was then called Odessos. And there is another town at the coast of the Black Sea, Odessa in the Ukraine. Both towns bear Odysseus' name and were connected to Asia Minor, proving that Odysseus's name and fame survived the Dark Ages in the Second Ionia.
