Poet Homer wrote the Iliad and the Odyssey about 750 BCE, shortly after the invention of the alphabet. The Iliad describes the Trojan War, the Odyssey Odysseus' epic trip.

Geographer Strabo traveled the then-known world and described his findings about 2,000 years ago. Effectively, this made him the first Geographer.

Wilhelm Dörpfeld helped excavate many ancient sites and became convinced that Lefkada was ancient Ithaca.

All theorists agree about Zacynthos being Zakinthos, but there the similarity ends, as they all have different Ithacas, Doulichions and Samosses.

To make their theories fit all theorists, including me, 'created' an island, except for Dörpfeld, who instead tilted the compass to account for all the islands.

Dörpfeld saw what I saw, that Lefkada is an actual island and not part of the mainland, regardless of the digging of the canal in the 7th century BCE that Strabo mentioned.

Cees Goekoop looked at the matter from a sailor's point of view and actually sailed the region to arrive at his theory.

Robert Bittlestone based his theory on Strabo and a natural feature on Kefallinia. He organized search parties to explore his canal between Kefallinia and Paliki.
