Then Peiraios, famous for his spear, came close to them, bringing the stranger, Theoklymenos, through the city to the place of assembly.
Telemachos avoided the thick crowd of the suitors. He took his seat where Mentor had sat and Antiphos and Halitherses now sat- his fathers companions in the old days He went over there and took his seat. And they asked him about everything.

Avoiding the suitors Telemachos informs Odysseus' old friends, that will be the Ithacans not being part of the suitors kin, about their attempt to kill him. Only then Theoklymenos arrived, apparently quite late.
You see, they walked through the city. This is strange since Medon called them and would have brought them to Pyrgi perfectly in time, unless of course Telemachos planned this deliberately. Their route through the city would give Telemachos an extra 30 minutes after all participants were assembled.

So, this all is very well planned by Telemachos. He had time to meet and inform his mother and he had time to inform 'the friends'. What was said however is unknown.
