Southwest
Palace, City and Pyrgi
Since Rumor had to go through the whole city to get to this place, where apparently the people were gathered, we can deduce the place of gathering must be somewhere on the other side of the city, in other words in the southwestern part of the plain.

During my many visits over the years I spent a lot of time searching for a suitable place in Vasiliki plain, including in that part, but it wasn't till years later that I decided to have another, closer look at a place I had passed numerous times before.
The spot is called Pyrgi, which means Tower. The reason I never paid it much attention was the fact the place consists of nothing but a fully overgrown farmer's house on a small hill, which burnt down in a wildfire thirty years ago. Not exactly a place you'd expect to find anything ancient.
What helped was that the farmer had cleared the house from the abundant overgrowth, so there was actually a bit more to look at.
In februari 2021, while locked down in Greece due to the second Covid-19 wave, with plenty of time on my hands I decided to investigate the remains of Pyrgi somewhat closer when the surrounding wall caught my attention.
