The blockage

At the end, the polje splits into a dead end and a pass to Amfilochia with a very gentle slope. Neither the nature nor the age of this blockage can be determined. No recent research is known to support any possibility. So, it is not possible to say that water separated Acarnania from the mainland on this spot but, there is plenty of water from here, near the Gulf of Amvraki, upto the estuary of the river.

There is no sign at all of a steep wall north of the polje. The highest point of the blockage, being perfectly flat, is used by the city of Amfilochia as a football facility.
