We know the horsemen waited till dawn near Arini where the Minyeïos flows into the sea. Neros' foot soldiers must also have started some time in the night, but that could be at 21:00, 24:00 or 03:00, we simply don't know.
We also don't know at what time the sun rises, because the season's unknown. We have to make another estimate, so let's put dawn at 06:00, then we can try to make an educated guess from which point they might have started the walk along the sandy beach of Pylos.
Google maps is a good tool to help determine the walking distance. From Filiatra it takes around 9:00 hours to walk, from Kyparissia 6:00, Kalo Nero 4:30 and from the river Neda it's about 3:00 hours. Our Pylos can't reasonably have been any further than Filiatra, it must lie somewhere between there and the river Neda.
The alleged palace of Nestor is at a staggering sixteen hours walking distance, which is impossible to walk within a single night. It seems once more the place where it's believed to be is just too far away!
We have to take into account that Pylos itself for safety reasons won't lie on the coast, but about a half hour or hour's walk away. For the same reasons Thryoëssa won't be next to the border river Alpheios.
So, let's try to find this Thryoëssa.
