Better Spot
Next hilltop
Open space
In 2021 and 2022 I therefore undertook a search for a better spot for Eumaios' hut, which I expected to be harder than it actually was, as I imagined that finding an identical spot with similar characteristics to Agias Ioannis 'Rodaki' wouldn't be easy.
However, next to the hilltop of the temple lies another one, very similar in height and including an open space, currently in use as an olive grove. At the highest point of this hill are the remains of a shepherd's hut with visible roof tiles from the collapsed roof, which means it was in use till fairly recently.
It's highly unlikely this is Eumaios' hut, but the location did seem like an ideal place to build one, so what about the view? Can it be as amazing as the view from the monastery?
Perhaps you've already spotted a problem, but it took me quite a while to realise that situating Eumaios' farm in the same location as the temple of Artemis was at best a bit dim, if not downright foolish. Obviously, both the pig farm and the temple must have existed simultaneously in ancient times, so they can hardly have occupied the same location.
