Catalogue and Doulichion
NEXT >
In the Iliad Homer lists the number of ships and who send them.

And so on ...........
Homer's catalogue lists Doulichion, but there is no mention of Akarnania, blue, most upper left on the map. Doulichion is generally believed to be one of the Echinades, the small islands close to the Acarnanian coast like Strabo wrote. It seems strange Akarnania isn't on the list. Is it possible that Homer did not leave out Akarnania, but referred to it by another name, like Doulichion? Also, because the amount of ships (40) that Doulichion sent seems far too much for such a small island. As the sequence of the list is in geographical order Akarnania fits the place of Doulichion on the list, and it's large enough for so many ships. Let's look at the Echinai.
