Chalkis
But first we take a look at two other places Homer mentions when Telemachos sails back to Ithaca.
INDEX
They ran past Krouni and Chalkis, with there beautiful streams. They came near Pheai, driven on the wind of Zeus,
As mentioned in scroll 2, Krouni and Chalkis are the first places Homer mentions as waypoints on the route to Ithaca after Telemachos sets off from Pylos. We can assume they'd be close to one another as they and their streams are mentioned together.

Closeby, between the river and the ford, a small village is found, the modern name of the place is Klidi. This could be the exact location of Chalkis, hidden behind a small hill.
A village called Krounoi still exists north of the steep hills and there's a small stream that once ended close to the hills in the former ford of the Alpheios. It's hardly a beautiful stream anymore for the ford's gone and the stream's been canalized.
Just south of the ford and the steep hills, there's a really beautiful stream, where the hill forms a wall of lime stone next to the river. Considering Chalkos means chalk and so is lime stone, it would fit the name Chalkis beautifully. There's also a spa here because of the sulphorous water.
