Down hill
Thick bushes and thorns
Odyssey Book 14 line 5-25 A.T. Murray
Three hundred and sixty hogs who slept outside the twelve sties, could this meadow be the place where they slept? It certainly looked promising, the place is now used for the sheep and it's surrounded by thick bushes, we had trouble reaching it, which all seems rather perfect!
Now, how to get up to Rodaki again?
Now, how to get up to Rodaki again?
.... but the boars slept without. These were far fewer in numbers, for on them the godlike wooers feasted, and lessened them, for the swineherd ever sent in the best of all the fatted hogs, which numbered three hundred and sixty. By these ever slept four dogs, savage as wild beasts, which the swineherd had reared, a leader of men.
The journey down the hill turned out a bit of a mixed blessing as we came down scratched and bruised, but it meant we did find a generous supply of thorns. The bush was so thick making decent pictures even proved impossible. At least there were plenty of big rocks, so maybe Eumaios' hollow rock was among them, it certainly showed potential, though in the end we didn't find one that fit. Even if we'd fancied going back up the hill it was impossible, so we decided to continue our descent. After a while we ended up in a beautiful circular meadow, could this be where the sties would've been? What does Homer say about it?
