Former Pylos?
Now that we've established that what is called 'The palace of Nestor' near modern Pylos isn't the palace of Nestor, we can explore whose palace it might've been. Not Agamemnon's, that's in Mycene nor Menelaos', his palace is in Sparta.

There's another curiosity in the fact that Agamemnon was ready to give up the Seven Cities rather easily. It's therefore not unreasonable to question whether Agamemnon was ever the true leader of these cities. On the other hand, Homer doesn't mention any other kingdom, so whose can it otherwise have been?

As we've just read Diokles lived in Pylos, though his sons served Agamemnon and Menelaos, so it's not unlikely Agamemnon took over parts of Neleus' kingdom along the Alpheios, while fighting Herakles.

And if so, why shouldn't it have been much more than just around the Alpheios. It might just as easily have encompassed the whole area of the Seven Cities. If that's the case, the wrong palace of Nestor might just have been the former palace of Neleus. So maybe not that wrong after all. In any case, it's not the palace of Nestor.
