They eat souvlaki! It sounds like the sties aren't adjacent to his hut, as he 'goes off' to them, which you wouldn't say if he just nips next door for the pigs. Something to remember when we start the search for the sties.

Eumaios quickly bound up his shirt with his belt and went off to the sties where the tribes of pigs were penned. Selecting out two, he brought them in and butchered both. He singed them and cut them up into pieces and threaded the meat on spits. Once he had roasted the pig, he placed the hot pieces on the spits in front of Odysseus, and he sprinkeled white barley on top.

How can I be sure Odysseus didn't walk for longer? Well, shortly after Odysseus arrives and formalities have taken place, Homer writes:
Bring up the best of the swine so that we can butcher it for the stranger who comes from afar.
Clearly there must have been a bit of time gone by, as you wouldn't order more pigs to be butchered after just having had your fill, so it's safe to assume the first meal must've been lunch. Presumably, the herders came in around sunset, perhaps half an hour before dark set in. A fire must be lit to provide for light, cooking and keeping the chill away. There's more storytelling, then they go to sleep. A new day dawns, December 17th.
