Niras
Huts ran all around it in which the slaves ate and sat and slept, those who did his bidding.
Odysseus and his companions have arrived at Laërtes' farm, we already know that his fields are near Porto Katsiki. There is a suitable location north and one south of it. The rest of the area is steep and rough and only suitable for goats. So, which one could it be? Is there anything specific Homer wrote about? Yes, there is.

When they went down from the city, they came quickly to the beautiful farm worked by Laërtes, which once Laërtes had won for himself, and much had he labored upon it. There was his house.
So, we are looking for a big area. After Odysseus found his father Laërtes, they lunched together with Dolios and his sons.
After finishing their lunch Odysseus asked:
"Let somebody go out and see if they are coming near." So he spoke, and a son of Dolios went out, just as he commanded. He went to the threshold and stood, and he saw the suitors kin coming near.
Well, this is a bit strange, isn't it? Odysseus is of course expecting the family of the suitors to come for him, but they took the time for a lunch without looking outside!
So there must be a great distance between Laërtes' house and the people that are coming after him.
INDEX
Let's take a look at Agias Nikolaos Niras.
This distance can only be found in the fields south of Porto Katsiki. This location is called Agios Nikolaos Niras. It is now a monastery. I walked the distance to check how long it will take to walk from the point of first sight to the monastery. It took me 40 minutes. Long enough for a lunch I think. The fields at Agios Nikolaos Niras are still well maintained. And there are huts on several locations around the fields.
Agios Nikolaos Niras is the perfect place for Laërtes' farm and the fact that there is a monastery isn't a surprice for me. Again the church took over an historic ancient place.
