But Telemachos can't leave while the suitors are still in the palace and his mother's still awake. In the hours before, Telemachos is organising supplies for the voyage in his father's special storage room, so no-one can see him. His nurse Eurykleia is asked to help him.

Wine jars

Telemachos is planning a big trip considering the amount of supplies he wants to take with him and he informs her about his plans. Eurykleia is afraid Telemachos might perish by the trickery of the suitors. And Telemachos says to her:

Courage nurse! Not without a god have I devised this plan. But do not tell my mother before the eleventh or twelfth day, or untill she herself shall miss me and hear that I am gone.

As we've gathered from the list on the previous page, the eleventh and the twelfth day are the days that Telemachos starts his journey back to Ithaca. Counting the days starting from the full moon ties in perfectly with Homer's description.
Eurykleia arranges the supplies and Telemachos goes off to mix with the suitors, but he doesn't stay there for long.

Then the goddess, flashing-eyes Athena, thought of something else. In the likeness of Telemachos she went everywhere throughout the city, and to each man she came near she spoke a word, urging him at evening to gether beside the swift ship.

Meaning Telemachos had the smart idea to select his companions personally.
