There aren't too many places between Spartias Hill and Neion for the suitors to have been able to see the ship. They can't have been far from Eumaios, a bit higher up the mountain, just outside the gates. So, we looked for a path up, found it and climbed it. A visiting friend, who has a bad but in this case fortuitous habit of smoking, required us to stop. While waiting around on a big rock I surveyed the area and there it was, the water of Ithaca harbour. Found it!

The viewpoints of the suitors and Eumaios are very close, only Hermes Hill separates them. From the gates of the palace the bay wouldn't have been visible, only the masts could've been.
