Koloni Spartias
The bay seen from Spartias Hill
INDEX
Ruins on Spartias Hill
Without excavating the plain of Spartias we can never be certain whether the city of Ithaca is down there, but the hill hasn't been covered by sediment, so at least we can explore Koloni Spartias for any signs to support my theory.
Ok, if we accept for now this could have been the location of Ithaca city, let's see if we can find a suitable place where Odysseus' palace could've been.
If as I believe the hill served as protection for the city of Ithaca, the side facing the bay won't show signs of habitation, but the other side certainly should! So, we went up Koloni Spartias, which was a pleasurably easy climb for a change. And yes, we did discover some ruins on the side of Spartias.
From the top of the hill the bay of Vasiliki can be seen and we decided to descend on the other side, which also turned out to be the other side of pleasurable. We arrived back on the road behind Spartias Hill covered in scratches and bruises. Though at least we found nothing of note on the back side of Koloni Spartias.
