Theatre lights
Not by Zeus ...., ....and by the sufferings of my father, who was either perished far from Ithaca or wanders around lost, have I delayed my mothers marriage. ..., among the suitors Pallas Athena stirred up an unquenchable laughter, and she turned their minds askew. They laughed with alien lips, and they ate meat that dripped with blood. Their eyes were filled with blood, and they wanted to wail but could make no sound.
It looks like a special effect that appears to the suitors, like a reddish light. For us that isn't strange any more, we experience it in theatres, films or television. But in those days it must have been an astonishing experience.

Ah, you wretched men, what is this evil that you suffer? Your heads and faces are wrapped in night, and your knees beneath. A wailing blazes forth -your sheeks are bathed by tears -walls drip with blood, and the beautiful rafters. The forehall is filled with ghosts, and the court is filled too, as they long to go to Erebos beneath the gloom.
It is getting night in the middle of the day! The light is as it was on stage in a theater. Not only in the halls, but also in the court outside.
The sun is gone from the sky, and a dread mist has fallen over all.
But I know this 'special effect' from nature. I witnessed it in nothern France on the 11th of August in 1999. I'll never forget this experience!
