Trifilia
According to Homer, however, the Alpheios (Alfeo) and Thryoëssa were part of 'sandy Pylos'. That would mean the brown-coloured part of Elis, called Trifilia, belonged to Neleus' kingdom.

As you can see on the map on the right, there's also a Trifilia in Messinia. Before we'll continue the story of the battle of Thryoëssa I'll explain why only #6 and the western part of #4 on this map form part of Neleus' kingdom and the rest of Messinia doesn't.

Map of Elis
Map of Messinia
The Epians, who live in Elis, assembled and picked up their weapons. The coloured parts on the map on the left together represent Elis. As you can see here, the river Neda now forms the border between Messinia and Elis.
There is a city called Thryoëssa, on a steep hill, far away on the Alpheios in the farthest reaches of sandy Pylos.
But on the third day the Epeians speedily assembled, both themselfs and their single-hoofed horses.
