At the southern end of the polje the Katouna blockage separates the Vliches polje from lake Amvrakia. The lowest point of the blockage is about 90 meters above sealevel. There is no steep wall here either. In stead the blockage has a central hill which, by the looks of it, slided down from the western mountainridge. It could well be that there was a dramatic change in the landscape. The blockage looks similar to Bittlestone's Paliki blockage with a central hill and it is less than half its height.
The water surface of lake Amvrakia is only 15 meter above sea level, the bottom is 25 meters below sealevel. Lake Amvrakia is another barrier between Acarnania and the mainland creating a chain of barriers starting from Loutraki:
